America Turns 234 (going on 19), and a Contest Winner Announced

Happy (early) Birthday, America!

I hope you’ve all got some great plans for the coming weekend, I know I personally will be celebrating the fact that I’ve almost made it all the way through my 20s with all 10 of my fingers still attached. We’ve had some beautiful weather in Virginia this week, and if we’re lucky maybe it will hold throughout the weekend, too. Though if my experience of living in this area my entire life tells me anything, we won’t be so lucky. But hey, who knows! Let’s be optimists for a change.

We’ve got a contest winner to reveal today, but first a few comments.

I’ll be bringing someone on for some guest posts next week, someone who has got some really delicious looking recipes to share that I hope you will all enjoy. Plus, a little change of pace from my boring old self will surely be a welcome thrill, yeah? Don’t lie. I know what you really think.

Though I’ve had an absolutely craziest of crazy weeks, I’ve managed to round up a couple suggestions for some cool holiday fare to share with you. Here are some of my favorites, have a peek!

- Blackberry Upside-down Cake from Bella Eats
- Red, White, and Blue Rice Krispie Treats from How Does She
- Roasted Beet Hummus from The Family Kitchen
- Blueberry Topped Lemon Cheesecake from the Tastespotting Blog
- And last but not least, my very own Fresh Blueberry Margaritas (inspired by evil chef mom’s Fresh Cherry Margaritas)

So now on to the contest. I am simply overwhelmed by the responses this one drew. So many new faces, so many great ideas, and so many inspiring everyday acts. I have truly been impressed. But alas, as any child of the 80s surely knows, THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE.

And the winner is…

Have a safe and wonderful 4th of July! Got any cool plans? Share with the class!
